Dear Friends:
The CMCA executive team is very grateful to all the members and non-members for being very responsive in participating in the various events CMCA have been hosting throughout the year.
We are thankful to everyone for the contributions, supports and donations respecting CMCA’s project of providing financial support to five primary school students in Mauritius. We are looking forward to provide each beneficiary $150 to cover their schooling expenses. Hitherto, we have been able to collect $295 with a cap of $750 yet to reach. I would like to elucidate how this particular funding project would be implemented.
The name of the project is “Enhancing Access to Education to Underprivileged Students in Mauritius”. The beneficiaries of this project will be exclusively limited to students of standard V and VI and the beneficiaries will be nominated after meticulous scrutiny. We will pre-screen potential candidates from every corner of the island and selection would be based on the following criteria:
1) Student’s willingness and dedication in studies - does have to be the most brilliant in class;
2) Low income earning parents unable to properly finance their child/children’s studies; and
3) Hardship encountered by the student due to short of finance.
The final selection will be on a regional based classification; that is one beneficiary from north, one from south, one from east, one from west and one from central part of the island – so as to alleviate all or any impartiality or prejudice in the selection process.
That being said, we need CMCA members assistance and participation searching for potential beneficiaries and in this perspective, we humbly request to CMCA members and non-members to contact relatives, friends and NGO’s in Mauritius to look for candidates. The candidates’ parents must submit applications with supporting evidence justifying their eligibility for the funding – accompanying letters from the student’s teacher or school headmaster are highly encouraged. The application must comprise student’s names, address, vocation of parents and name of school and description of hardship faced by the parents in financing their children’s studies.
We are currently negotiating with Mauritian Banking institutions to help us in this project as part of their social corporate responsibility obligations. After nominating the beneficiaries, we will open bank accounts in the name of every beneficiary with a credit of $150.
Any contribution and donation in furtherance of this project are most welcomed.
The closing date for submission of application is March 5, 2012 and all applications must be mailed to:
