April 6, 2005 - Being native of Mauritius, I am pleased to inform you that on Friday, April 1, 2005, at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau QC Canada, my wife and I attended the official opening of the exhibition "The Quilt of Belonging" (La Courtepointe de l'Appartenance). The unveiling of this magnificent Canadian textile artwork took place in the presence of the Board of Directors of "Invitation" and more than 500 guests from different ethnocultural groups.

In fact, it was an extraordinary tapestry-work of about 36 metres long x 3.5 metres high (120 x 10 feet) composed of 263 blocks with embroidered designs from different countries including Mauritius. The symbol for Mauritius was designed by me, and during the opening, some guests asked me several questions about our island. (Please refer to the link, The Invitation Project, for the picture and more details about the logo for Mauritius).

The book "Quilt of Belonging: The Invitation Project " showing all designs and comments will be sent to me next month. I shall let you know when I receive it.

Yours,

Joseph-Serge NINA
